Interpol issues red notice for Swedish coach Tom Strand

Interpol has issued a red notice alert for Swedish coach Tom Marcus Strand, who went missing while on international duty with Ghanaian side Medeama last year.

Sportsobama.com is reporting the South African Police has notified the International Police Crime Organisation’s (Interpol), over the bizarre circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the European tactician.

The Ghana police is reported to be on a hunt for the 35-year-old, who has returned to the West African nation, 10 months after the shocking incident.

Strand went missing in South Africa after his side lost 3-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in a 2016 CAF Confederation Cup play-off tie in Pretoria.

Strand is wanted by Interpol after it emerged he has returned to Ghana to sign a controversial contract with struggling Premier League side Great Olympics.

Medeama have dragged the Wonder club to the Ghana FA for the illegal appointment of the Swedish, insisting he has a valid contract with the club.

Details are sketchy but it appears coach Tom Strand will not have an easy way out with the FA set to adjudicate on the matter in the coming days.

It’s unclear the kind of sanction that will be meted out to Olympics and the coach if both parties are found culpable of the offence.

Red notices are one of the ways in which Interpol informs its member countries that an arrest warrant has been issued for an individual by a judicial authority and seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action.
