Only ‘superman’ government can achieve 103 promises in 100 days – Kwesi Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has described the Akufo Addo led-government as a “superman” government for claiming to have achieved 103 promises in its first 100 days in office.

According to him, the government has failed to deliver on some of its promises to Ghanaians and wondered why they (NPP) have managed to achieve 103 promises just within 100 days.

“In some parts of the world, when a president is elected into office, his ministers are vetted within a short period of time and so achieving so many within 100 days isn’t bad.

“But here in Ghana, even within the transition period, the government was still selecting his ministers but at least the NPP government is best when it comes to having the full compliment of ministers but that cannot qualify for such massive achievements in just 100 days.

“No one is expecting magic but the NPP are rushing too much. Or is the NPP telling Ghanaians that they are now superman government to be able to achieve so much in 100 days?” he quizzed.

The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia told a tonwhall meeting organised by Joy News that the government has made 103 achievements within its first 100 days in office.

Christening it as “one day, one achievement”, the Vice President said even though the government did not make any specific promises for the first 100 days, it has been able to achieve some significant successes.

The event was organised to mark President Akufo-Addo’s first 100 days in office. Among the 103 achievements, Dr Bawumia pointed to the “arrest” of the cedi and decrease in debt among others.

“We have arrested the cedi from running… and have given the keys to the IGP,” he said amidst laughter. He said the stabilization of the cedi has brought some relief to investors and business owners. He said government has upped the country’s foreign reserve from less than $6 billion to $8 billion.

“This is the achievement and with that you have a lot more confidence in the economy and you see stability return to the currency.”

But speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Thursday, Kwesi Pratt maintained that the first 100 days in office of the governing NPP is too short a period to judge the performance of the Nana Akufo Addo-led government.

The veteran journalist opined that 100 days is too short a period for all Ghanaians across the country to feel the impact of the actions and implementations of the Nana Akufo Addo-led government.

Mr. Pratt wondered why transport fares shot up under Nana Addo’s administration when he promised to alleviate the sufferings of Ghanaians.

He could not fathom why the government would reduce taxes on flights while transport fares were recently increased. According to him, only Ghanaians can judge the true impact of the implementations on the quality of life.

Mr. Pratt also wondered why the Vice President should be given such assignment when there are information ministers who could have managed it without any outcry from some section of the public.

“And by the way, why should Dr Bawumia be given such assignment to handle? I am sure there is so much outcry out there because Bwumia chaired that meeting. Even Kojo Oppong and Mustapha Hamid were there with him, so why didn’t you allow them to do the presentation?” he quizzed
