Charging a 10% tax on bet winning is not out of place – NDC MP

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya West constituency in the Central region, Gabriella Tetteh has indicated that the government charges 10 percent on bets and lottery winning is not out of place because that money can help develop the country.
According to her, “If you place a GHC50 bet and win ghc5000, paying 10% tax on it is nothing to worry about”.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotoronline.com, the Communication Team Member of the NDC still supports the decision of the youth wing of her party calling on the government to withdraw the 10% tax because the youth in the country are unemployed that is why most of them are into this betting.
“The youth wing has a point because these people are engaging in bet for, they have no use of economic livelihood,” she said.
According to the communication officer of the NDC in the Central Region, “Since the government has failed to create avenues for the youth to put their investment, then this is where they’re going to go”.
She said there are young people in the country who have turned betting and lottery into their business and that is earning them something for a living because the leaders are not helping.
The new betting tax means punters will have to cede 10% of any amount they win to the government in the form of tax.
