Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly referred to as Opanyin Agyekum, has offered a word of caution to politicians in light of the approaching December 2024 general elections.
As a former Head of the Linguistics Department, he emphasized the importance of politicians exercising restraint in their statements during the campaign season.
In response to the inauguration of the New Patriotic Party’s Campaign team by the National Executive Council (NEC), Opanyin Agyekum expressed his approval of having incumbent President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor as Campaign Advisors. He highlighted the wealth of experience they bring to the team.
He urged all individuals designated as members of the Campaign Team to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the task at hand. Merely holding the title of a campaign team member is insufficient; the ultimate objective is to secure victory.
Nevertheless, Opanyin Agyekum stressed the need for caution in expressions. He warned that a single ill-considered word has the potential to undermine the entire campaign. The professor emphasized the significance of preserving hard work and avoiding scenarios where efforts go to waste due to imprudent communication.
