Gifty Oware-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Women’s Premier League club Berry Ladies football team, has been elected as a member of the Executive Council (EXCO) of the Ghana Football Association Congress in Tamale.
During the contest in the Ghana Football Association Elective Congress in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023, the Berry Ladies owner received a unanimous victory with 20 out of 20 votes.
Randy Abbey, Frederick Acheampong, James Kwasi Appiah, Nana Oduro Sarfo, and Kingsley Osei were elected to the Executive Council.
Gifty Oware-Mensah will also serve as an EXCO member after being elected as representative of all 20 Women’s Premier League clubs. She will therefore take over as Women’s Football Representative on the Executive Council from Madam Habiba Atta-Forson for the next four years.
The GFA planned to have its Congress in Tamale on September 27, 2023. However, King Faisal issued an injunction, compelling the event to be postponed for early October.
According to King Faisal, a genuine Congress cannot be held to elect the President unless new Executive Council (Exco) delegates are officially chosen.
The club said that allowing nominations for the GFA President’s election before the Exco elections is both unethical and illicit.
Furthermore, King Faisal FC, who is located in Kumasi, requested a statement that any decisions issued by the current EXCO respecting the GFA President’s election before Exco representatives are chosen constitutes a breach of trust, confidence, and loyalty.
