Value Added Tax (VAT) collections by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from January and May this year amounted to GHC 1.2 billion.
There has been a significant growth of more than 90% year on year over that of 2022.
This represent a 92.4% increase of the GHC 649.93 million collected within the same period last year.
Speaking to Journalist after an enforcement exercise in Accra, the Assistant Commissioner and Manager of the Accra Central Area Enforcement Unit of the GRA, Joseph Annan said, the increase in VAT receipts was due to the VAT enforcement exercise and other measures instituted by the Authority to encourage tax compliance.
“We have made phenomenal gains with regards to VAT collection. We have recorded a 92.4% year on year increase from GHC 649.93 million to GHC 1.2 billion.
Regular enforcement exercise and other measures including e-VAT introduction, VAT invigilation and mystery shopping have resulted in the huge improvement “ he said.
He however sounded a note of caution to other businesses in the various regions that, Accra is just a starting point and very soon the operation team will be other regions.
