This is according to the latest trade vulnerability report by the Ghana Statistical Service which reveals Ghana’s 2022 imports exceeded exports by some 4.5 billion cedis.
The report which also disclosed that Ghana spent some 148.6 billion cedis on imports while raising 144.1 billion cedis from exports in 2022, adds that 2/3rds of all export revenue came from only two commodities, gold and oil.
Reacting to this, the Dean of the Ghana Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research at the University of Ghana Professor Charles Godfred Ackah said the finance of the country won’t be better if we rely on importation.
“Just last year 2022, Ghana lost 4.5 Billion Dollars out of our trade which shows we imported goods more than what we exported and I will plead with the government to put in good measures,” he said.
