Retired FIFA referee Richard Atifu passes on following an accident on the Aflao road
Richard Atifu, one of Ghana’s leading football referees, has passed away following a car accident in Accra. Despite being swiftly taken to Ridge Hospital, he sadly did not survive.
Atifu was widely regarded as an esteemed figure in the world of football refereeing, having presided over several high-profile matches both domestically and internationally.
He was considered one of Africa’s most experienced referees at the time of his retirement, having overseen matches in various competitions such as the African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In addition to his refereeing career, Atifu was also a FIFA instructor, renowned for his ability to mentor and train young referees to succeed in their careers.
He was recognized for his professionalism, dedication, and passion for the sport, and his contributions to the football community will not be forgotten.
