Senegal youngster Pape Matar Sarr is on the verge of signing with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs in a deal worth £14.5 million.
After joining French side FC Metz last season, the 18 year old impressed in his debut season for the club and has been scouted by many top European clubs for his signature.
However, the young Senegalese has decided to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on a six year contract but is likely to stay in France for a year before moving to England next summer.
Metz’s president Bernard Serin says he has a verbal agreement with Tottenham to sell the teenager, but that would be contingent upon him spend the first of year of a proposed six-year deal on loan back with Metz in Ligue 1, the logic being that he will spend a full season in their first-team rather than playing a bit-part role under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Sarr scored three times in 22 appearances for Metz last season, including one against Montpellier which shows why he is so highly regarded. Sarr latches onto a loose ball just outside his own box, carries the ball up the pitch and finds a teammate before firing a low half-volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The teenager moved from Generation Foot Senegal to FCMetz in September 2020 and less than one year later, Sarr rose to join Tottenham Hotspurs on a six-year deal.
He follows the footsteps of Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr, Papiss Cisse, Ibrahima Niane amongst others.
