Kpotame compound’s porch converted into a guest center for residents

The Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound’s porch at Kpotame in Tema Manhean has been illegally transformed into a relaxation center by some residents causing nuisance to nurses and patients during working hours.

A visit to the facility by our correspondent, Rebecca Lartey showed how men, women, and children carried their mattresses, mats, and cloths to the clinic corridors and compound to relax on, while others engaged in playing games against the advice of the Community Health Officers.

The Senior Nursing Officer for the Kpotame CHPS compound in an interview with Madam Getrude Quartey, expressed worry over the situation stating that nurses and patients do not have their privacy when they visit the facility.

The situation, she said has gotten serious as members of the community use the compound as a community event park for their funerals and other programmes without seeking permission from authorities.

She therefore called on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), and individuals to help fence the premises to prevent residents from taking over, adding that they also needed an inscription indicating that the facility was a CHPS compound.

Assembly Member for the Dade Agbo electoral area Mr. Joshua Agudah says the encroachment on the CHPS compound is getting worse as they fear losing the facility to the encroachers.

He called on authorities to help fence the health facility.
