Vice President of policy think tank, Imani Africa, Kofi Bentil has accused the Akufo-Addo government of messing up with deals such as the PDS and Agyapa deals while questioning the thinking capacity of persons who raise issues with such deals even though the same persons fought hard to hand over the country to them to govern.
Mr Bentil lamented that it was the belief of persons who supported the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the party will govern the country better than the National Democratic Congress(NDC) that was in power but the NPP government has turned out to be disappointing and dismissive of those who are critical of it.
He noted that when they question the expertise of government, they do so as citizens because the government works for them.
His comments are a reaction to claims by some persons associated with the Agyapa deal, notably Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, than persons like Mr Bentil who have criticise the Agyapa deal lack the requisite expertise to do so.
“We fought hard to hand you this nation because we believed you could govern better, then you start with 110 ministers, only 50 of whom have anything to show as work after 4 years and you produce messes like PDS etc, now Agyapa!!!
and you say we can’t think or read because we are not investment bankers? Even if I don’t know how to cook, I know how bad soup tastes!!
But rest assured our combined relevant experience is multiples of what you tout. And note we never tout expertise when we question the decisions of our leaders. We do so as citizens and demand answers because you work for us!!” He wrote on his Facebook page.
The Agyapa deal has sparked a rift between some civil society organizations (CSOs) and the government. The CSOs have claimed that the deal in its present state is bad for the country and must be suspended for further disclosures and more transparency. But government has defended the deal, saying that it is a good deal for the country
