Executive Director of Institute of Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI) Mr. Peter Bismarck Kwoffie is calling on the Judicial system to be independent from the other two arms of government and work for the freedom of the citizens.
Speaking on Ahotor Fm’s morning show Adekyemu Nsem with Emmanuel Martey a.k.a Alaska De Don, Mr Koffie said in Ghana, the rule of law favours the rich and the people in power.
“The court is there to prevent every violation from the Executive against the citizens but looking at the current situation, the court is now more executive minded”
“If you have the government on your side, it’s always difficult for the court to fight you in Ghana” He said.
Adding that, Ghana is not exercising the rule of law correctly.
“The rule of law in a country like Ghana precisely, we are not exercising the rule of law correctly”
“What the law says about what is to be done to anyone who breaks the law changes depending on the victim” He added.
He disclosed that the frustrations in the judicial system shows there is no rule of law in the country because the law must be applied to anybody and everybody in the country.
Mr. Kwoffie said the law is applied to the vulnerable rather and goes against those who are within the executives, which has made the country more like lawless country.
Citing instances of discrimination of the law, Mr. Koffie used the NPP’s primaries as a typical example.
“The easiest example i can give you is the coronavirus restrictions Act that said not obeying the health protocols is an offense to the rule of law but the NPP disobeyed it at their primaries where nobody was punished, talks a lot about how lawless the country is” Mr.Kwoffie said
