I rise to welcome you all to this ceremony, a ceremony in which since that fateful day in July, 2012, we do honour to one of the greatest persons ever to have walked the ground in Ghana.

The late President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills was a patriot whose disposition and calm, confident demeanour rubbed off on everyone who came into contact with him. In these moments of real challenges in which there is widespread violence and lawlessness just because we are writing our names in order to be able to cast our votes, John Atta Mills the Peacemaker, John Atta Mills the Prince of Peace, is who we need to calm the waters

But alas, he is no more. Gone to join the hallowed ancestors who spent their lives and employed their strengths to build a country that we are all so proud to call our own.

As we congregate here to participate in this annual ritual, let us never forget what he stood for, and what he taught us. Let us remember, always, to do right by our fellow countrymen, let us continue to love each other as he loved us, and let his noble spirit intercede on our behalf, so that by God’s BOUNTIFUL GRACE, we will win the upcoming elections and allow the dear people of Ghana to breathe once again.

With this, I now formally welcome you all to the Asomdwee Park for the commencement of proceedings. GOOD MORNING my brothers and sisters.
