Akuffo Addo Abandons Mahama’s Saglemi Housing Project – Hon. Muniru

Member of Parliament for the Akan constituency in the Volta Region, Hon. Abdul Aziz Muniru has asked the government to allow occupancy of the Saglemi affordable housing project started under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress to reduce the housing deficit in the country.

The 5,000 units housing project at Prampram in the Greater Accra region has been stalled as a result of government’s decision to conduct value for money audit on the project.

In an interaction with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Adekyee Mu Nsem Monday morning on Ahotor 92.3 FM Hon. Muniru who is also a member of the parliamentary select committee for works and housing, appealed to the president to live up to his words as captured in his second state of the nation’s address to parliament last year.

The president in his address stated that, the Saglemi housing project is on government’s priority list but an effort is yet to be seen on the part of the government.

“The Saglemi Housing Project, started under the last NDC government, is also high on our list of priorities this year. The five thousand units it offers would boost our housing numbers. We are, therefore, establishing the value for money issues surrounding the project in order to reconcile the number of houses built with the schedule of payments made, and accelerate delivery”, the president said in parliament.

He urged government to make provisions for people to move into the houses to help solve issues of housing shortages in the country.
