The Eastern Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Felix Addo-Okyireh, has shed light on the grave aspect of environmental degradation in Ghana, especially in the eastern region.
In a conversation with Desmond Tabi, of Radio 1, Addo-Okyireh revealed a startling fact: a significant majority of those responsible for land degradation and water pollution in the country are non-Ghanaians.
According to Addo-Okyireh, approximately 80 percent of individuals involved in these harmful activities hail from outside Ghana’s borders.
This revelation underscores the intricate challenges facing the nation in its quest to safeguard its natural resources and uphold environmental sustainability standards.
The influx of foreign actors contributing to environmental degradation highlights the need for robust enforcement mechanisms, international cooperation, and heightened awareness campaigns to address this complex issue.
It also underscores the importance of stringent regulations and monitoring frameworks to hold all parties, regardless of nationality, accountable for their environmental impact within Ghana’s borders.
