The decision made last month allowing Conor Benn to compete again after two adverse drug tests have been officially appealed.
According to numerous individuals who spoke to Mail Sport, the British Boxing Board of Control and UK Anti-Doping have both exercised their right to challenge the judgment of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel.
Benn had been threatened with a two-year suspension from the sport, but the NADP’s decision in his favor in July seemed to be a significant triumph.
Mail Sport understands that the NADP hearing did not cover a discussion of the science behind why clomifene was twice discovered in the fighter’s system in 2022, despite the fact that the reasons for that decision have not been made public.
In the midst of the turmoil, Benn’s side has maintained that the decision was not jurisdictional. However, sources suggest that it was largely focused on UKAD’s failure to make a decision about samples gathered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.
Following the decision, UKAD lifted Benn’s suspension from boxing, which had been set for a two-year suspension.
UKAD declared last month that they were lifting Benn’s temporary ban as a result of the decision.
It is uncertain if Benn will move forward with his preparations to fight before a final decision now that they have appealed.
Since he possesses a US license, Benn may theoretically compete in the meantime. He may decide to test the Board’s position by submitting an application to box in the UK with international documentation.
Benn has denied doing anything illegal.
