General Secretary of Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantoah has called on the government and people in authority to stop this charade fighting of galamsey and bring perpetrators to book.
According to her, we should start looking for the people involved and stop jailing innocent people who go there for green pastures.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotor FM, she said when murder suspects are been arrested abroad, they interrogate to find out their cohorts until evidence makes it clear that such persons did it alone, therefore, how are suspects interrogated in Ghana when they have been arrested, she asked.
AngloGold Ashanti Ghana’s Obuasi Mine is aware of media reports alleging that illegal miners may have been trapped underground in the northern areas of the mine, remote from current active mining areas.
In her submission, she called on authorities to do the needful, because the youth they arrest cannot afford the price of excavators but due to the hardship in the country, they go there to work to feed themselves.
