Transport operators have agreed to reduce transport fares by 10 percent beginning August 1, 2020.
This follows the decision by the government to relax the COVID-19 restrictions and allow public transports to load full capacity.
The directive by the President has been met with some mixed reactions from some commercial drivers in the country.
The Central Regional Chairman of the Drivers for Change Union, Mr. Kwaku Boateng, says the 10% reduction is justified because the transport fares was increased because of the reduction of passengers in the commercial vehicles to limit the spread if the covid-19.
He said his association will welcome the reduction in the transport fares.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Union, Paa Willie said he is not surprise that the Drivers for Change backing the decision to reduce transport fares because they are in bed with the government.
He said they will not reduce the transport fares and warned that there will be transport fares increment anytime the price of fuel goes up.
