Thomas Ashong Mustapha, the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to edge out all the aspirants that might file for the regional youth organizer post.
In an exclusive chat to The Hawk on the forthcoming Greater Accra Regional election of the NDC.
The Presiding member of Accra Metropolitan Assembly and branch chairman of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Ashong said that he would win in the forthcoming regional youth election, come any day. “I can tell you without fear of equivocation that the Youth election is for Ashong, I don’t have a major contender,” Ashong told The Hawk in confidence that his competitors are contesting him to boost their popularity within the party.
For Ashong, those lacing their boots to contest him are people who served under him. ‘I know of two youth organizers who are gunning to contest me. I know they are coming because I initially told them I was going to contest for the Regional Chairmanship, thus why they are showing up. The clarion calls out there is that, Ashong must aspire higher after over twenty years as the Regional Youth Organizer’. He narrated.
Asked whether he is not older than the post to seek reelection, Ashong said, although in his forties, he does not think age is anything to be considered when deciding on who a youth organizer should be. To him, its about the state of the mind, competence and readiness to serve.
‘Though a Muslim, I managed to secure visas for several youth organizers to go for hajj when I don’t know hajj myself. As youth organizer, I assisted several constituency youth organizers under me to attain higher heights in politics. He identified the incumbent Accra Organizer of the NDC, Anthony Nukpenu, Kobby Balon, Deputy National Youth organizer, Deputy Accra region organizer and more.
He said, at a point in the life of the regional party, he single-handedly paid rent bills of their regional office for one year. ‘without any appointment from government though qualified, I paid about GHS3,000 monthly for a year while in opposition.
For Ashong, his respect for person, humility and accessibility is his triumph card. ‘I know every youth organizer’s home and they also know mine’.
The transporter cum politician, said he is seeking reelection for a continuous and improve leadership.
