In a recent series of campaign statements, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and current candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has drawn attention for his ironic stance of campaigning against the very policies he once championed.
Dr. Bawumia’s rhetoric suggests a profound acknowledgment that the NPP has not delivered on its promises made during the 2016 campaign, prompting NDC Insight to urge Ghanaians to critically evaluate his claims.
The communications officer of NDC Insight, Dr. Anthony Sorkpah, expressed concern over Dr. Bawumia’s announcement to repeal the betting tax, questioning why it was implemented in the first place. “Did you not review this policy before deploying it?
Now, after years of imposing it, you claim you will repeal it. This raises serious questions about your judgment and the NPP’s commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians,” stated Dr. Sorkpah.

NDC Insight Responds to Dr. Bawumia’s Campaign Rhetoric: A Call for Vigilance Among Ghanaians
Accra, Ghana – In a recent series of campaign statements, Dr.
Sorkpah.
Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to repeal the E-Levy and Covid taxes further complicates his narrative. “Are you acknowledging the widespread consensus among Ghanaians that these were poorly conceived policies? If so, please admit that you were misinformed when you implemented them,” Dr. Sorkpah urged. He highlighted the irony that the so-called “Economic Messiah” has failed to alleviate the economic burden on the citizens of Ghana.
Dr. Sorkpah also called attention to the need for accountability. “Have you accounted for how the NPP government has appropriated funds during your tenure, Mr. Economic Messiah? We demand transparency, especially after eight years of hardship exacerbated by your administration’s fiscal policies.”
He warned Ghanaians to remain vigilant, as Dr. Bawumia’s recent promises may simply be a ploy to regain power. “This shows a blatant disregard for the economic struggles faced by ordinary citizens. It is troubling that after eight years of implementing burdensome taxes, you now propose to repeal them only to maintain your position in power,” Dr. Sorkpah cautioned.
As Dr. Bawumia continues to advocate for digitalization, Dr. Sorkpah expressed skepticism. “We must not be surprised if he introduces new taxes under the guise of digitalization, Also known as digitalization tax and levy just as he has previously burdened us with economic taxes. We must question the motives behind every promise made by the NPP.”
In light of the upcoming elections, Dr. Sorkpah emphasized the importance of choosing a government that truly represents the interests of the people. “Let us remember the umbrella and the NDC for a better, inclusive government that prioritizes the needs of Ghanaians over the desire to cling to power.”
