Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections (I.T.) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sounded the alarm over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to move ahead with printing ballot papers for the 2024 general elections without first providing a certified voter register or accurate ballot statistics.
According to him, this raises serious questions about the integrity of the upcoming elections and opens the door to potential electoral manipulation.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show, ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem,’ on Thursday, October 10, 2024, Dr. Computer did not mince words in expressing the NDC’s strong disagreement with the EC’s actions. “How can you begin printing ballot papers without a certified voters register? This is highly irregular and threatens the very foundation of our democracy,” he stated, his tone laden with concern.
Dr. Computer went a step further, accusing the EC of potentially setting the stage to rig the 2024 elections in favor of the ruling NPP government.
“We will not sit quietly and allow any form of electoral manipulation. The NDC will not be intimidated,” he warned, making it clear that any attempts to undermine the party’s chances in the upcoming polls will be met with firm resistance.
He further revealed that the NDC has a scheduled meeting with the EC, during which they expect to address these critical issues.
“We will make our decision after that meeting, but let me be clear proceeding with the printing of ballot papers without a certified voters register is unacceptable. It poses a significant threat to the peace and stability of the country,” Dr. Computer added.
His remarks underscore the growing tension between the NDC and the EC, with the 2024 elections fast approaching.
The NDC’s stance suggests that they will not tolerate any lapses in the electoral process, as they strive to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.
