Norbert Gborgbortsi, the ex-deputy Director of Communications for the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), expressed his concern that the free education system in Ghana isn’t yielding the desired results. He pointed out that the current curriculum focuses too much on theory and lacks practical elements.
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM, Mr. Gborgbortsi supported John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in his pledge to address the challenges of the Free SHS program if elected. Mr. Mahama has emphasized the importance of prioritizing solutions to the issues surrounding the implementation and funding of the policy.
At a meeting with representatives from various teacher unions, including the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Mr. Mahama outlined his plans to strengthen the education sector. He announced intentions to organize a stakeholder forum within his first 100 days in office to gather suggestions on enhancing and providing quality education.
