Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has responded to concerns regarding the new passport fees introduced by the ministry.
She stated that if Parliament decides to revert to the old passport fees, the ministry will comply accordingly, emphasizing that it is not their intention to financially burden Ghanaians.
Addressing the public’s call for reductions in the new fees, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey expressed surprise, stating that the new charges were approved by Parliament after thorough consideration by all members.
She clarified that the ministry only presents the facts to Parliament, and any subsequent decisions are made by the legislative body.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the ministry and its need for funds and resources to operate effectively, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey underscored Parliament’s awareness of these challenges.
She urged Ghanaians to exercise patience, assuring them that the ministry’s actions are ultimately for the benefit of the country.
