Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, has come under criticism for his recent remarks, which many perceive as an attempt to escalate violence during and after the December 7th, 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for Wa West, expressed these concerns during an appearance on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Alex Nana Dogbey in Accra.
Toobu emphasized that a political platform should be used to address pertinent issues and challenges facing the nation, not to incite violence. He described Acheampong’s statements as empty political rhetoric, emphasizing that if Acheampong intends to disrupt the stability of the country after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has worked tirelessly to protect the nation’s democracy for 32 years, his threats are baseless.
Furthermore, Toobu stated that if Acheampong believes he has the power to carry out his threats, he should proceed, as the NDC and the Ghanaian people will find their own path to power.
Expressing disappointment, Toobu also criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for failing to use the platform to advocate for peace and highlight the government’s developmental successes, instead allowing room for unreserved comments from the Minister of Agriculture.
In a separate development, Bryan Acheampong reiterated his stance from 2023, asserting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Despite acknowledging recent economic challenges faced by the government, Acheampong affirmed the NPP’s commitment to revitalizing the economy and ensuring that Ghanaians witness the positive impact of the party’s efforts, thus choosing to retain them in office.
Acheampong questioned the NDC’s persistence in seeking power, asserting that regardless of their desires, they would never emerge victorious in the December 7 polls. He pointed out the improvements in the economy, stressing that even in challenging times, the NPP’s dedication to progress remains steadfast.
