Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has sparked debate by openly praising the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its commitment to the welfare of its members. Speaking on Wontumi Radio, Obiri Boahen highlighted what he perceives as a stark difference in how the two major political parties treat their supporters and operatives.
“The NDC, despite its shortcomings, demonstrates genuine care for its people. They ensure that their members are supported in tangible ways. If I were in the NDC, they would have catered for my airfare, accommodation, and fuel when I traveled to represent them. That level of support cannot be said about the NPP,” he remarked.
Obiri Boahen further contrasted his experiences, recalling instances where the NDC showed willingness to assist him. He cited a conversation with Yaw Boateng Gyan during the 2014 World Cup, where the NDC stalwart offered help, even though he was affiliated with the opposing party.
“In 2022, as Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, I sought to be part of the delegation to the World Cup. However, I was informed that the list was full, even though the NPP was in power. This reflects a broader culture within the NPP where opportunities are monopolized by a select few,” he lamented.
According to Obiri Boahen, such attitudes explain why the NDC continues to maintain its grassroots appeal and grow as a political force. His statements have reignited discussions about internal party dynamics and the importance of nurturing loyalty within political organizations.
