Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the Leader and Founder of the Movement for Change, has made a commitment to designate the Tema Port as a duty-free port if elected as the next president.
His rationale behind this proposal is to encourage increased trade, drawing inspiration from neighboring countries that have implemented similar strategies.
Emphasizing the significance of the trading community, which constitutes approximately 80% of Ghana’s population, Kyerematen believes that focusing on this sector will contribute significantly to the overall economic growth.
During his two-day tour of various market centers in the Greater Accra region, including visits to the Tema, Ashaiman, and Madina markets, Kyerematen engaged with market men and women to discuss his transformative agenda policies.
Addressing the traders, he revealed his intention to establish a duty-free port in the Tema enclave if elected as the next president.
Furthermore, Kyerematen expressed his commitment to alleviate the burden on businesses and the economy by lowering taxes to the minimum possible level. He argued that exorbitant taxes were detrimental to both business operations and the overall economic health, and he pledged to implement measures to create a more favorable business environment if entrusted with the presidency.
