MP for North Tongu and Ranking Member of Parliament Affairs Committee Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is surprise the president wants to purchase a new presidential jet despite saying the country’s financial status is not all that well.
Hon. Ablakwa says the government said there was no money to complete abandoned projects which resulted in the increase of salaries for public sector workers by only 4% but wants to buy a jet surprises him.
Speaking on Ahotor Fm with Citizen Kofi Owusu on the Morning show dubbed ‘’Adekye Mu Nsem’’ he said the reasons given by government to purchase the jet doesn’t make sense but for his personal comfort and wants to just travel in style. He also made it known that the minority will not support this decision, looking at what COVID-19 is doing to the citizens and the state of the current economy.
President Akufo Addo has come under fire from the MP of North Tongu who has consistently accused the President of wasting taxpayer’s money on hiring luxurious jets for his foreign trips instead of using the existing presidential jet.
The government had explained that the current presidential jet was not convenient for long-hour trips, as it couldn’t take more numbers and had limited facilities for the comfort of a president.
Mr Ablakwa also indicated that he is seeking to file another urgent question on the cost of President Akufo-Addo’s recent trip to the US and hopes to get answers when Parliament resume sitting next month.
