Ignore the hearsay on the Umbro deal, they are not true – Opare Addo
“It is a surprise to hear that Umbro is not ready to provide Hearts of Oak with new kits for the upcoming season, there is no truth about such news” – Kwame Opare Addo
The Communications Director for Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr. Opare Addo has stated emphatically that Hearts of Oak has sold about 70% out of the 6,500 Umbro replica jerseys contrary to recent reports in the media that the fans didn’t purchase the jerseys.
In December 2018, Hearts of Oak announced a mouthwatering kit partnership deal with sportswear giant Umbro. The English sportswear giant replaced Barex on a three year partnership agreement and became the biggest in the club’s history.
As part of the partnership, umbro provided Hearts with paraphernalia for fans to purchase. Last week, it was alleged in the local media that the club had failed to sell the Umbro replica jerseys to their fans and for that reason, may not get anymore kits for their first team or the contract may be terminated.
“Umbro has not communicated to Hearts of Oak not to provide the club with new kits for the upcoming season. We still have agreements with Umbro. We are still using their kits for training” – Kwame Opare Addo
Speaking in an interview on Ahotor Kwanso,Opare Addo claims he was surprised when he heard the news in the media.
“It is a surprise to hear that Umbro is not ready to provide Hearts of Oak with new kits for the upcoming season, there is no truth about such news”.
He explained that they have not received any communication from Umbro (their kit sponsor) in relation to the purported rumours that Umbro are not ready to provide Hearts of Oak with new kits for the upcoming 2020/21 season”.
