I left for a new challenge – Patrick Yeboah
Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender Patrick Yeboah last week terminated his contract with Asante Kotoko in the wake of their preseason preparations towards their CAF Champions league campaign.
The former Karela United left back had two years left on his contract with Asante Kotoko but both parties decided to part ways with mutual consent after he was left behind for their preseason tour in Koforidua.
”It’s not because of the arrival of some players.I just want to take on a new challenge. I am not afraid of challenges but I have to move on. I thank the Kotoko family because they made me who I am”, Patrick Yeboah told Kumasi based Oyerepa Fm.
Kotoko recently announced the signing of some key players including former AshantiGold defender Yusif Mubarik to bring in more competition in the team but Patrick thinks it was wise he moves on for more playing time.
“Getting enough time to play as a player is very important and it was a reason i decided to terminate my contract with Kotoko. You become rusty if you don’t play and no player wants to sit on the bench”.
Yeboah was part of the local Black Stars team that finished second in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Senegal a year ago. Although he was called by then coach Maxwell Konadu and subsequently sent to Kotoko by the same coach, lots of football fans believe he has not been treated well by Maxwell.
“I do not have any problem with Coach Maxwell Konadu and I cannot say he was unfair to me.There are certain things I cannot say on air but everyone who was present at our training grounds can attest to my performance,my training was even better than my performance during matches”
“Coach Maxwell Konadu could not cause financial loss to the club by keeping a player he’s brought on the bench hence playing Imoro Ibrahim over me.I perfectly agreed to his stance but coach Maxwell Konadu can attest to the fact that I was giving Ibrahim a tough opposition,my colleagues on many occasions told me I was better than Ibrahim and should have started games so I’ve decided to move on to prove to everyone that I am capable and fit to play than to be warming the bench”.
“It’s not my will to leave the club,I am not happy at all but I have to take the challenge to prove to people that I am a better player who’s not giving enough time to prove my wealth”
Kotoko have already added four new players into their fold this season with the likes of Emmanuel Keyekeh, Yusif Mubarik, Patrick Asmah and former Azam FC and Black Stars goalkeeper Razak Abelora all in their books.
