Let’s focus on colts football – Barnes
Former FIFA U-17 national team player Sebastian Barnes has advised the football fraternity in Ghana to focus on colts football development.
Barnes captained the Ghanaian team Black Starlets to glory at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and received a heroic welcome after their return from the tournament with a major street named after the Starlets.
He was capped once for the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars of Ghana and reached his apex when he moved to the Bundesliga in Germany.
Having had the opportunity of enjoying colts football before coming into the limelight, he believes it’s the best way of scouting and nurturing talents for the country.
Barnes believes the only way for the Ghanaian game to reach its previous heights of dominance at the youth and club levels is to concentrate on colts football.
He had lots of praises for our local coaches and urged all to support them. To him, the coaches in the country are not given the necessary backing and support to achieve success unlike what we usually give the foreigners.
The ex Starlets captain believes that, with the quality of players we have developed in the past and continue to develop, reintroducing colts football and investment into it will help get the country to its glory days.
The former Bayern Leverkusen midfielder made these remarks in an interview on Tuesday night’s edition of Ahotor Agrokansie.
