Communication gadgets were bought to improve officiating – Asante Twum

Last week, the GFA received referees communication gadgets they have purchased to be given to referees for better output

The Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that, the FA is willing to help improve refereeing in Ghana.

Mr Twum claimed the Anas expose dubbed No 12 exposed our referees and since the coming of the new FA administration, they have been doing everything possible to improve the quality of officiating in the country.

He added that, since 2016, the communication gadgets of the referees have broken down without replacement and this necessitated the purchase of the new equipment.

Last week, the GFA received communication gadgets they have purchased to be given to referees to improve their work.

The spokesperson said, there were ten batches of gadgets received and that will enable all the officials at the nine match venues to have them.

On a match day, the centre referee, two assistant referees, and the fourth official will all have modern communication gadgets to enhance the officiating of the match.

The GFA has restructured its refereeing department and ended their relationship with the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG).

The new refereeing structure of the GFA includes the Referees Committee, Match Review Panel, Assessors and Classification Panel and the Refereeing Department with different personnel serving on each function of refereeing. This is aimed at driving more effectiveness and speedy response to complaints by clubs.

Last month, the GFA appointed retired FIFA referee, Alex Kotey, as the first Referees Manager of the FA. This ended the longstanding monopoly enjoyed by RAG in the past.

The newly appointed Referees Manager will aim at recruiting and training youngsters to venture into officiating and also take over the general recruitment of referees which used to be the preserve of RAG.
