Ghana, Accra – Monday, June 8, 2020: A senior mediation member of the United Nations and former deputy minister for foreign affairs in the erstwhile Mahama administration has said, Ghana is being closely monitored by the international community in her preparation to ‘wittingly’ violate the ECOWAS treaty which sought to protect member state from unnecessary wars that erupts usually during general elections.
Mr. Bombande quoted the ECOWAS treaty Section II, Article 2 (1) that states, “No Substantial modification shall be made to the electoral laws in the last Six (6) months before elections, except with the consent of a majority of political actors”.
The United Nations Senior mediation officer added, the country is on the verge of violating the very treaty which sought to end unnecessary wars, uprising and Coupe’s during and after elections among member states by promoting peace and security upon the maturation of the Constitutional Instrument 126 (C.I.126) which according to him is entangled in lots of illegalities, and presented to the Ghanaian house of Parliament by the Electoral Commission.
Speaking to Kakeeku on the Yepe Ahunu Show on Accra based Ahotor 92.3 FM last Saturday, Honorable Habuka Bombande said, it would be better for Ghana to think of the high reputation the country had gained in the eyes of the international community than to throw them to the mud since the implications of such would be dreadful.
