A Financial Analyst, Joe Jackson has asked government to allow the airline industries in the country to charge realistic fares that reflect the reduction of passengers per flight, to reduce the indebtedness of the airlines.
As part of Covid-19 protocols, physical distancing has been promoted as a means to reduce the rate of infection. According to the airline operators, this has resulted in a steep fall in their revenues.
However, Joe Jackson who is Director of Strategy and Business Operations with Dalex Finance, believes that, support from government would help the airlines to reduce their losses.
Speaking on Ahotor Kaseibo, he said government should come in to support the airlines to enable them keep some of the staff who would have been laid off.
According to Mr. Jackson, this support should be for a specific period of time which would allow them to restore their operations.
He indicated that the airline costs have gone up because of the social distancing protocols and other operational related issues.
In his view the airlines will increase their fees to represent the new normal and new reality of airline travels.
Although international passenger flights are not operating from Ghana, domestic flights are taking place with the social distancing protocols in place.
