President of the Containers Owners Association, Mrs. Diana Yonkopa Daniels has asked for the prosecution of Mr. Fred Charles Anson, commissioner General of GRA over a deliberate ploy which led to the looting of state funds under the pretence of constructing a fountain at the head office of the commission.
Mrs. Daniels is outraged about the cost of the erection of the Entrance and exit Gates at the head office estimated at three billion old Ghana cedis (3 billion cedis) by an institution tasked to collect revenue for national development.
She also revealed that two fountains at the Head office cost over one billion old Ghana cedis (1.03 billion) and are also contemptible and infuriated a believed garden management at the headquarters cost one billion, five hundred million old Ghana cedis (1.5 billion cedis)
In an interview with ahotoronline.com, she accused Mr. Anson of not allowing the contract to go through the normal tendering process. She has described the situation as pathetic as some graduates still remain at home with the hope of securing jobs but are unable to find “and instead of investing in jobs, the GRA is prioritizing the construction of fountains”.
According to her, “somebody is trying to chop some money and so therefore wasting the government’s finances on useless expenditures”.
She has therefore called for an audit into the activities of Mr. Anson in order to protect the public purse against misappropriation and would embark on a “one-woman demonstration” when the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Public Accounts Committee fail to bring Mr. Anson to book.
