Though the National Democratic Congress have held similar unity walks’ in about 8 regions so far, with rapturous attendance by grassroots, supporters and sympathizers by the Party.
Saturday’s unity walk in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi will be adjudged the most enthusiastic and mother of all unity walks organized by the party months ago.
Reportage by patrons and top gurus in the party noted the jamboree began Friday evening when the former President John Drammani Mahama touched down in the region amidst chanting of party slogans, drumming and dancing, the blurring of car horns as well as the fizzling sounds of vuvuzela by ecstatic jubilant supporters of the party.

An iconic Poster ‘boy’ and a leading member in the Dome Kwabenya constituency of the NDC Hon. Hadji Mustaphar revealed that, the arrival by John Drammani and his entourage at the converging spot of the walk set the entire area blazed with many bystanders and onlookers wanting to catch a glimpse of the former President who doubles as the 2016 Presidential candidate of the NDC.
He stated, the procession hovered around some major principal streets in the garden city amidst thick vehicular and human traffic making movement difficult for wardens to manage.
Ahotor News Ashanti regional bureau chief, Nana Owusu Achiaw told ahotoronline.com that for all intent and purposes, the Ashanti region has been stagnated and anchored to the governing party led by President Akufo-Addo.
Referencing past elections from 1992 till 2016 general elections which saw the defeat by the John Mahama led regime. The New Patriotic Party overwhelmingly secured a landmark results as against the NDC of the region in a popular votes cast between the two political rivals during the last elections.
Nana Owusu, remarked that, due to several unfulfilled campaign promises by the government after the elections amidst the collapse of artisanal ( small scale) mining popularly referred to as “galamsey” the NPP has lost touch and sympathy with many floating voters as well as sections of core sympathizers within its fold.
The huge electoral setback and reneged promises of the government in the Ashanti region, has ignited a fertile ground for the opposition NDC with many clamoring for the comeback of John Mahama to salvaged them from their current economic predicament, which has arisen as a result of bad governance by the Akufo-Addo led administration after 15 months in office.
There were several inscriptions embossed on huge banners, T- shirts and placards depicting the messages of hope and expectations by large number of dejected people of the region.
Our correspondent further stressed the regional and the 47 constituency executives of the NDC in the region are poised and determined to redeem the lost glory of the party in the region through such participatory exercises as roadmaps to galvanized supports and favor by the electorates to recapture power in 2020.
He also acknowledged the presence of several bigwigs including ; flag bearer hopefuls and stalwarts in the party, who mobilized in grand style to show support and telepathy for the success of the walk at the Ashanti region which came off on Saturday 28/4/2018″.
