The incessant pressure to halt the demarcation of the Volta region rages on as, Tongu Youth Association in collaboration with Coalition of Volta Youth is expected to embark on a peaceful street protests to register their resentment to government’s decision to divide the Volta Region into two geo- landmarks on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that the quest to split the region was an earlier appeal made by some reagent and paramount custodians ( chiefs )in some major regions in the country , to then Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo now President of Ghana during the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The decision by the chiefs and other agent’s of development which has been fully Okayed by the Party in government, but has since received constant bashing and fiercely resistance by the inhabitants in these regions.
Similarly a scheduled demonstration slated on the 4th April will be expected to exhibit public outrage against the supposed creation of a new region out of Volta region.
The creation of the new western Togoland by government is currently going through a serialization process which is anchored on broader consultation backed by executive instruments and a roadmap thesis per the conventions of the local governance structure of Ghana.
Stakeholders in the ongoing consultative fora will be expected to produce a policy document and terms of reference about the relevance in the conjugations about the split nature of the region to enhance decentralization and radical developmental drive in the selected region.
Critics of the otherwise prudent policy have questioned government’s failure to split the Ashanti region which has a larger volume of districts and land coverage.
But is focused without any equivocations to divide the Volta region into two to satisfied their whims and caprices. A decision which is been christened as preposterous and vicious.
Since the region has become an albatross and unfavorable to the political fortunes of the Akufo Addo’s administration.
Though government’s communications’ machinery as well as the appropriate ministry in charge with oversight duties have all tried to foiled the anger and feud as well as acrimony, ever since government tabled its intention to trek on such mission.
Any explanations and public sensitizations of a sort have since been futile.
There are still a lot more senior citizens and recognized pressure groups who are unperturbed and are on collision course to peruse their legitimate means to render their displeasure to President Akufo-Addo’s administration through the acceptable instrument of peaceful streets protest and euphoric demonstrations in the Volta region.
The coalition would begin the march at the R.C School Park in Tefle and enroutes through some principal streets of Vume-Tefle, Motorway – Sokpe and sogakofe respectively.
Organizers have entreated participants to wear their native warrior dress, popularly called ‘Adevu’ in Ewe.
However the presentation of the petitions would centered on two folds: One, to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of South Tongu and the other to the Tongu traditional council at Fievie.
The grand and gargantuan demonstration is themed and code named “Save Volta Now”, Now or Never.
The organizers have posited that, the region will turn ‘Red’ on Wednesday amidst singing, and chanting of war songs to mark the event.
Readers will recalled a similar streets protest a month ago in the Volta region in view of same aggregate concern over the creation of a new region out from the Volta Region.
