The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of consistently avoiding responsibility for the country’s economic challenges.
During a speech in Nsawam Adoagyir, part of his tour across the Eastern Region, John Mahama criticized the ruling party for what he described as a repeated pattern of shifting blame rather than addressing problems.
He highlighted that in 2016, the NPP accused him and the previous NDC administration of causing economic difficulties. Then, in 2020, the party pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as the primary reason for financial instability.
More recently, they have cited the Russia-Ukraine war as the root of the nation’s ongoing economic woes.
“The NPP refuses to take responsibility for the country’s challenges,” Mr. Mahama stated. “In 2016, they blamed my administration. In 2020, they blamed COVID-19. Now, they’re pointing to the Russia-Ukraine war. It seems they’re always looking for someone else to blame.”
John Mahama argued that a government unwilling to acknowledge its own role in the nation’s troubles is unlikely to resolve the crisis.
He expressed confidence that the NDC, with its legacy of building and strengthening the country, would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
If elected, he promised, the NDC would restore stability and set the nation on a path of progress.
