The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has made a passionate appeal for the immediate cessation of vote-buying and vote-selling practices in the country’s electoral processes.
This call was made as part of a broader push for significant reforms in Ghana’s campaign financing system, which many believe fuels corruption and undermines democratic values.
Speaking at a national forum on the monetization of elections, the Executive Secretary of GACC, Beauty Emefa Nartey, emphasized the urgent need to address the corrosive influence of money in politics. She highlighted that the practice of exchanging votes for monetary or material incentives compromises the integrity of elections and erodes public trust in governance.
She further called on stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the Electoral Commission, to collaborate on implementing policies that promote transparency and fairness in campaign financing.
This, she noted, would help to level the playing field for candidates and ensure that elections are driven by ideas and competence rather than financial muscle.
