National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama recently pledged to empower Ghanaian women through his proposed Women’s Bank, which aims to support 200,000 women each year with financial assistance.
Speaking at the 42nd-anniversary celebration of Yejiwura Pimampim Yaw Kabrese V, Mr. Mahama outlined this initiative as part of the NDC’s broader commitment to fostering national development.
He emphasized that many women, particularly those in markets, work tirelessly to support their families and communities but often lack access to financial resources.
The Women’s Bank, he explained, would address this gap by providing soft loans, enabling women to expand their businesses and increase their economic impact.
“Women in our markets are the backbone of many households. They try their best to earn a living, but too often, they lack the financial support they need,” Mr. Mahama stated.
“Sometimes, they need just a small loan of 1,000 or 2,000 Ghana cedis to grow their business. With the Women’s Bank, we aim to support them, recognizing that when women succeed, the benefits ripple through families and communities. The women’s bank will help some 200,000 every year”
Ahotor News correspondent Emmanuel Romeo Tetteh reported on John Mahama’s enthusiasm for this project, highlighting how the Women’s Bank could boost economic growth by empowering women entrepreneurs and market traders.
