Ghanaians unhappy with high market prices inspite of the gains of the foreign currency

Barely a week today would be the commemoration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This festive occasion is celebrated around the whole world with pump and pageantry.

The celebration is usually marked with family reunions, church activities and sharing of gifts as well.

However, the economic hardships in Ghana have cast doubt as to people’s preparedness to the celebration of the yuletide.

Ahotor 92.3 fm Reporter Samuel Osei visited some markets including Makola, Malata market as well as the Central Market in Accra to observe the preparedness of the citizens for the season.

He noted that, the streets have started gaining momentum for with the lots of people thronging the main streets closer to the markets.

The sideways are lines up with traders in cloths, drinks, foodstuffs, decorative lights among others.

A trader in an interview disclosed that this year’s market patronage is slow and customers are not coming as compared to last year. Adding that, she has been sleeping by her wares since morning.

“When customers come and hear the price of my goods, they complain of the price hoping that, goods prices should have been reduced as the govt has been calling for, after the cedi started gaining momentum over the foreign currencies.

She however blames the wholesalers who have not reduced their wares with the flimsy excuse of having old stock and therefore using the old prices.

She called on the wholesalers to decrease the prices of their goods to reflect the cost of goods in the markets.
