The ministry of health has urged the nursing trainees to remain calm amidst delays in disbursement of their allowances.
This appeals comes after vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced the allocation of GHC177million to the health ministry for the settling outstanding allowances for nursing trainees nationwide
The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association (GNMTA) says its members have not yet received their allowances, despite assurances by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that about 13 months’ arrears would be paid.
At a meeting with nurses and midwives on May 14, the Vice President promised that the Finance Ministry would transfer over GH¢177 million to pay allowances to nursing trainees by Thursday, May 16, 2024.
The president of the association, Pascal Adombillah, said the group and its members have had enough of the delays.
But during a handing over of two buses to the Lekma hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Center UGMC Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the Minister of Health designate assured of the government’s commitment to pay the arears with significant progress already made.
Dr. Okoe-Boye also urged affluent individuals to contribute to the advancement of healthcare institutions within their communities.
His call to action highlights the crucial role of community support in bolstering the healthcare system.
