Utility Service Providers must recognize that their existence hinges on serving their customers, who deserve top-quality service regardless of circumstances. Transparency is vital to uphold contracts and agreements between providers and customers, ensuring they are not breached or tampered with.
COSECA advocates for transparent and accurate information dissemination between Utility Service Providers and their customers, with a call for a load shedding schedule to enable Ghanaians to plan accordingly.
The coalition demands clarity on the root causes of the frequent electricity outages, criticizing varying explanations provided to the public. COSECA believes that regulatory bodies such as the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission are failing in their roles as economic and technical regulators, particularly in monitoring and evaluating Utility Service Providers.
COSECA holds that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s disregard for sector structures contributes to its dysfunctionality, urging reduced government interference for smoother operations.
The sector requires substantial financial resources for effective functioning. COSECA highlights concerns over mismanagement of resources, particularly the Cash Waterfall Mechanism, urging collaboration among sector players for its effective implementation.
The audit findings by Price Waterhouse Coopers on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are troubling, indicating a lack of cooperation from ECG. COSECA calls on ECG to fully cooperate with auditors and implement all recommendations.
Financial accountability and prudence are crucial in addressing sector challenges, as revenues from tariffs and contracts are intended to facilitate effective sector operation and resolve existing issues.
