“Akufo-Addo Condemns Use of State Power to Stifle Dissent”

President Akufo-Addo has strongly condemned the utilization of state power to quell dissenting voices within Africa, deeming it unacceptable.

Addressing a conference hosted by the African Union on unconstitutional changes of government in Africa, President Akufo-Addo stressed the vital role of democracy in the continent. He emphasized the imperative of firmly establishing democracy across Africa.

“When elections lack genuine freedom and fairness, and legal maneuvers are employed to undermine democratic principles, citizens perceive democratic processes as hostages to power. They often celebrate anything resembling an end to their current plight.”

Bankole Adeoye, the African Union’s Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, echoed a similar caution to leaders on March 17.
