Joseph Boahene Aidoo, CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), anticipates challenges ahead for the nation’s cocoa industry. He voiced apprehensions regarding the potential loss of thousands of metric tons of cocoa yield due to shifting weather patterns.
Mr. Aidoo lamented the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions on Ghana’s cocoa production, noting that cocoa farms have suffered from both excessive rainfall and subsequent dry spells, which are poised to significantly impact production levels.
He emphasized that these weather patterns are only worsening an already existing systemic issue, namely cocoa swollen shoot disease, which is the primary factor driving the decline in cocoa production in Ghana.
