Kennedy Agyapong and Sylvester Tetteh in near fisticuffs in Parliament

There were near fisticuffs between Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong and Sylvester Tetteh, MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro on the floor of the Parliament on Tuesday, February 13 while the day’s proceedings were ongoing.

In a dramatic turn of events, tensions reached a boiling point as other parliamentarians found themselves needing to play peacemaker roles to prevent a physical altercation.

At the centre of the storm was outspoken legislator Kennedy Agyapong, who is said to have approached his Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro colleague which ignited heated debates within the chamber.

According to Ahotor News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Mr Tetteh was trying to extend pleasantries with the Assin Central MP when the latter fired off.

Although the parliamentary session was ongoing, Mr Agyapong is seen in a subsequent video engaging in a heated verbal exchange with Mr Tetteh, vehemently urging him to step aside.

The sudden confrontation caught many MPs off guard as the argument grew more intense.

As voices rose and accusations flew, the situation quickly escalated, with both MPs standing toe-to-toe, their faces contorted with anger.

It seemed as though a physical confrontation was imminent, with tensions reaching a fever pitch.

However, before matters could escalate further, cooler heads prevailed, and fellow MPs intervened to defuse the situation.

Amidst calls for restraint and decorum, the two were separated, averting a potential exchange of blows.

Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin promptly intervened to de-escalate the brewing conflict. Forcibly, the Effutu MP guided Sylvester Tetteh away from Kennedy Agyapong, restoring order in the chamber.

The incident has sparked deliberations among parliamentary observers, prompting inquiries into the underlying cause of the heated exchange between the two MPs.
