Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency of the Eastern Region, Hon Davis Opoku Ansah has taken a swipe at the Ghana Police Service action creating impression that there is war at Mpraeso.
According to him, the incident that brought up the impasse between the citizens and the police is that a certain young man who tried to raped a woman but failed attacked the woman and her sister resulting the death of both by hitting them with a stuff upon failed attempt of rape.
Speaking in a media interview, he recounts how they found the young man after mounting up a search after taking to his heels when he realized crime has been committed. They found him and presented him the traditional council for punishment, hours passed by when the youth in the area realize that the criminal is still in the custody of the police and the elders at the chiefs palace, they gathered around the palace to effect mob attack on him but failed due to the high protection from the police service, “he recounted.
Reacting to the police actions by opening fire at the people of Bepong, Hon Davis Ansah said he cannot fathom why the people are being arrested at midnight especially males in the area. Is it the fact that they tried to effect mob attack on him or what, because the actions of the Police Service has resulted to one person’s death whiles several others have sustained several degrees of injury since the beginning of this impasse.
