The ongoing limited voter registration can be best be described as a civic responsibility and there is a need for all the political parties to play active role to help ensure people who are eligible and have to be assisted to register in the limited voter registration.
The belligerent position of the Electoral Commission (EC) should not be considered as a challenge since the right to vote is to register, and all the political parties must strived hard to provide the necessary support and logistics for the new potential voters, to take part in the limited voter registration exercise.
Mr. Osei Kwame Griffiths the former NIA director said the guarantee system being used at the ongoing limited voter registration, as one of the primary source procedure/documents is very great opportunity for people and above all to assist political party supporters and the public to register, this he said; the challenge and the back log of securing the Ghana card, proposed by the EC as a sole document should have disenfranchise a lot of people since the challenge confronting the National Identification Authority in printing out the cards is not encouraging at all.
He disclosed this at Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM. He is of the view that, the EC position in the limited voter registration is not to create more registration centres is not healthy since , the exercise is a civic duty for the citizenry and there is the need for the institution to collaborate with other stake holders for the, successful completion of the ongoing registration. He said it will be very encouraging if the EC will do all that it can to continue with exercise next year to assist first time voters to have the opportunity to register.
Mr. Azubila Emmanuel Abdul-Salam Executive Secretary of DAM-GH, called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the major stake holders in the ongoing limited voter registration to work extra hard to put in more resources and logistics to help people who have qualify to register as a voter.
He further stated that, the economic challenges facing the country as a result of mismanagement of the economy by the New Patriotic Party, the NDC is the only hope for Ghanaians as a government in opposition.
And there is a need for the NDC as a party to prepare and work hard to represent the bigger interest of Ghanaians and the disgruntle members of the NPP who are ready to vote the NPP government out of office.
