NDC is docile and weak in fighting NPP in opposition – Benard Mornah

The former chairman of People National Convention Party (PNC) Mr. Bernard Mornah, has said the role of the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress, activism, fight, and protest of demonstration’s; in working for the common goal of the suffering Ghanaians who are suffering and depends on them is nothing to drive home.

The back tracking of the pending demonstration against the governor Dr. Ernest Addison, must resign seem to be heading towards nothing. He made this statement on Ahotor FM Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show in Accra.

He reiterated that, the right to demonstrate in a form of protest has nothing to do with the police; hence dragging feet with the police on the issues of injunction cannot stop the opposition party to go on with the demonstration.

This he said, changing or postponing of dates for the democratic rights to demonstrate against the excess of corruption and mismanagement of the economy and the primary role of the Bank of Ghana is really distressing the support base of the party and the country which is going through difficult times as a result of bad governance and alleged corruption at all levels of NPP government.

Touching on the ongoing limited voter registration, he opined that, he urged all the youths who are 18 years and those who have not registered in the past registration exercise to work hard to take part in the exercise. This he said is the only democratic civil tool and rights to vote the corrupt NPP government out of power.

He said it’s very dangerous and unfortunate for the EC to use this period more especially with the rains and where most farmers are using this period for planting, can likely discouraged some potential voters to take part in the limited voter registration.

He is of the opinion that, the EC should have carried out the ongoing limited voter registration on the electoral centers and continue with the mop up next year where the voter register will be re-open again for another registration exercise, this he said makes the Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensa to frustrate the first time voters in the ongoing, voter registration exercise by not listening to decent and wise contribution from the opinion leaders, chiefs and civil society organization on the exercise.

The Executive Secretary of Chamber for Local Governance Elikplim Akahoho, stated that the ongoing out sourced contract giving to Digital Service Solution to collect property rate is an arrangement to rip off the government and the assembly. This he noted that, the arrangement has no legal binding and the financial details of the share bases where 70% of the collection from the property rate out of the total revenue collected goes to district assembly, while the 30% goes to Digital Solution Services. While unfortunately, there is a new directives that, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is to accrue 3% from the Digital Solution Services, while the company, which is enjoying the sole collection of the property rate is to rake in the 27% of the contract arrangement as their share of the contract arrangement.

Mr. Akahoho reiterated that, since the inception of this contract, the district assemblies throughout the country does not know the amount collected so far and how the collection is been allocated, since money collected from the property rated is lodged in the government consolidated accounts and not direct to the assembly accounts.

The Executive Secretary of Chamber for Local Governance Elikplim Akahoho, disclosed this on Ahotor FM Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show in Accra. He therefore appeal to the government to investigate the ongoing contract and streamline the contract clause with the law on income generation fund to support the assembly to rake in more revenue in the property rate collection exercise.
