Acting Director of NDC, Hon Daniel Amartey has revealed the NDC is ready in the event of a by-election in Assin North of the central region per announcement and clearance by the Electoral Commission.
The supreme court unanimously ruled against the incumbent lawmaker Hon James Quayson from holding himself as MP pursuant to the case involving Dual Citizenship by the embattled MP.
The apex court further directed parliament to expunge the name of the MP from parliamentary documents in the 8th Parliament under the fourth republic.
Though the legal representation of the Hon Quayson, led by Lawyer Abraham Amaliba has posited some legal defense about the propriety of the pending legal tussle faced by the Assin North lawmaker over the non-denouncement of his Canadian citizenship.
The NPP on the other as vested parties in the issue avowed the MP must be held liable for breaching statutes in the 1992 constitution which in clear terms state without equivocation that a person holding dual citizenship may not be sanctioned to vy for political or public office if he or she does not relinquish one as against the other in order to satisfy the constitutional requirements of the country.
However, reacting to the issue on Adekye Mu Nsem on Tuesday on Ahotor 92.3 fm. The Acting Director of election for the NDC Daniel Amartey opined that nothing would stop the NDC from winning the polls pending official announcement by the Electoral Commission after a 21-day expiration of a bill laid before Parliament.
Mr. Daniel Amartey in a live studio discussion on various range of issues covering both local and national politics in the country said the NDC is ever ready to retain the Assin North seat if the Election is conducted forthwith.
He explains further to Citizen Kofi Owusu that though the party has put in place several mechanisms and strategies to win the Election. The party would not outplay its winning methodologies in the public domain. But he is very optimistic that the party stands a better chance to win the seat for the people of Assin North Constituency in the central region.
Reports arrived in the public space that the government is mobilizing state resources to induce voters in the constituency in order to snatch the seat from the main opposition NDC who appear very strong on the ground per the 2020 results in the parliamentary contest where Hon James Quayson won.
The NPP has vowed to win the seat and states that the rank and file of the party are prepared to move into the area with force and urgency in their bid to capture voters ahead of a declaration by the EC for a possible by-election.
The National Organiser for the NPP Henry Nana Boakye in a viral video posted weeks ago called on the NPP and floating voters in the Assin North enclave to reward the government of President Akufo Addo over the deployment of massive infrastructural development in the area ranging from Alphating overlays and newly constructed road projects, provision of water and rolled out of livelihoods empowerment programmes brought by government to alleviate the people from poverty and economic respite.
The NDC on the other hand are of the view that the monumental achievements by the erstwhile NDC and its 2024 flagbearer John Dramani Mahama is evident for all to see and voters are inspired by these success and would maintain the party in parliament for More development in the constituency.
Hon. Daniel Amartey who served as MCE for ledzokuku – Krowor Municipality called on President Akufo Addo and the NPP to construct deplorable road networks in the Teshie area since the majority of access roads in the area are unmotorable and making commuting very difficult, especially for the local folks who ply these stretches on a routine basis.
Mr. Amartey is amongst a group of disgruntled inhabitants in the area who are protesting to awaken authorities in the Assembly and duty bearers to come to the aid of the people and give them respite over the neglect of bad roads in the Teshie Township. He stress that the NPP enjoys some voter supremacy in the area and should not take people for granted with reference to the 2020 voting pattern.
He furthered that the NDC is recognized in the constituency due to the existence of profiling of infrastructural provision in many areas of Teshie since 2009 – 2012 under the Presidency of Late President John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Mahama who is staging a comeback to govern in 2025.
Cladded in a red armband and drumming and dancing, the people of Teshie are protesting on the streets together with opinion leaders and chiefs with a clarion demand for government to fix mere death-related roads within the ledzokuku Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023.
