Broussia Dortmund have released me to Ghana until 2023 — Otto Addo

German Bundesliga giants Broussia Dortmund have finally reached an agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the release of the 46-year-old trainer for the Black Stars for the next eight months.

Otto Addo has confirmed that he will be joining the senior national team of Ghana from Broussia Dortmund until January 2023.

The former Ghana international emerged as favorite for the Black Stars coaching role after guiding the team to secure qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He was appointed as a stop-gap coach alongside Aston Villa U-19 coach George Boateng and Mas-ud Didi Dramani of Nordsjaelland as his assistant coaches and together eliminated Nigeria during the final play-off round in March.

Also, Irish-born of Ghanaian descent Chris Hughton was named the technical advisor of the Black Stars for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and expected to maintained with Addo and his two assistants for the upcoming games.

Otto Addo said in a podcast of Hamburger Abendblatt that he has received a permission from Broussia Dortmund to join the Black Stars until 2023.

“I got permission from Dortmund. Under certain conditions, it works out that I can do the international game phases in June, September and also the World Cup,” Addo said in a podcast of Hamburger Abendblatt.

Addo has been employed as a talent scout at Broussia Dortmund since 2019 and worked as an assistant coach under Edin Terzic last season.

Otto Addo, after leading the Black Stars to World Cup qualification, will continue the job as head coach until January 2023.

Ghana have been handed a tricky Africa Cup of Nations draw, as they face Madagascar, Angola and Central African Republic in Group E of the qualifiers.

The qualifiers begin in June with Ghana hoping to qualify for the tournament again after a disastrous campaign at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
